Foundations of Affordable Housing Property Management Series
Instructor: Jamila Burleson-Goshon
This five-part training series provides a practical foundation for affordable housing property management, focusing on how core programs, compliance requirements, and day-to-day operations fit together. Designed for new hires and cross-training, the series helps staff understand the why behind the rules so they can apply requirements correctly, reduce errors, and work more confidently across HUD, LIHTC, HOME, and layered properties.

Participants will learn how program rules, operational practices, and consistent documentation work together to support successful affordable housing communities.
Each 90-minute session builds essential knowledge and skills needed for consistent, compliant, and professional property management.

Part 1: Affordable Housing 101 - The Big Picture
This session introduces the structure of affordable housing programs, funding sources, and the roles of key stakeholders. Participants will learn essential terminology, how different programs intersect, and how compliance and oversight shape daily operations from move-in through move-out. The session also touches on the operational fundamentals that keep properties functioning successfully, including the role of rent collections and accurate rent posting in maintaining property sustainability.
