Got Ethics? Maintaining Personal and Professional Boundaries

Housing service providers link residents with supportive services allowing them to maintain self-sufficiency in their homes. It is most important that the SC understand the characteristics of the resident population and property in which they serve and the issues that may impact the differential use of services are socio-economic, age, culture, gender, race, sexual orientation and others. This presentation module will define ethical standards and offer guidelines and principles to guide professional conduct and decision making when faced with ethical dilemmas arise.

Learning Objectives: After successfully completing this module, participants will be able to:

  1. Define ethics.
  2. Understand the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries.
  3. Recognize characteristics of healthy and unhealthy boundaries.
  4. Explore warning signs.
  5. Identify strategies to address dilemmas

Can't We All Just Get Along? Dealing with Difficult People and Situations

Conflicts are natural in all walks of daily life, both at workplace and home. This session will introduce the common characteristics and traits associated with difficult people. While such characteristics and traits may be generalizations, you may find these characteristics and traits in a few of the people in your workplace, amongst your friends, or even a loved one. Dealing with difficult people and situations requires both tact and strength. You really can't manage someone who's being difficult, until you see the world through his or her eyes. What seems to be helpful is to establish the personality type that seems to fit the person you are dealing with and from this you'll be able to handle the situation better. Remember that there are no difficult people, only different ones.

As we accommodate an ever-changing environment at home and work, this presentation module will define what is good stress vs. bad stress, the impact that stress has on how we engage in the world, and review strategies for managing stress; finding balance between work and home; addressing burnout; recognizing the importance of self-care as a path to meaningful relationships and a manageable lifestyle.

Reducing stress in your everyday life is vital for maintaining your overall health, as it can improve your mood, boost immune function, promote longevity and allow you to be more productive. Managing stress is an essential job skill for the successful housing services professional.

Bullying Among Seniors: Creating Communities of Caring
When we hear the word bully, we immediately think of children and adolescents, but it is very real problem in the older adult population. It is estimated that 10-20% of older-adults experience some type of senior-to-senior aggression, usually verbal abuse. The actual numbers of older adults targeted are tough to tease out, because these acts often go unreported. This session is designed to increase and/or enhance your knowledge regarding the phenomenon of older-adult bullying, and outline ways to create a safe environment for addressing the targeted individuals as well as the perpetrators.

This presentation module will provide housing services providers with an enhanced understanding of the importance of providing good customer service and strategies for developing safe relationships with residents while staying within fair housing guidelines.

Fundamentals of Fair Housing and Section 504
Would you like to enhance your awareness and knowledge regarding the basic concepts of fair housing? Fair housing violations are often related to not accurately implementing reasonable accommodations policies and procedures. This presentation module will

enhance the participant's awareness and knowledge regarding the basic concepts of fair housing, and understanding of the basic Section 504 Program Requirements, including differentiating between Pets and Service Animals. Best practices on Reasonable Accommodation Policies and Procedures will be shared. you.
